Questions and Answers 3-22-09

I received between 50 and 60 questions this week. I have randomly selected five questions to respond to. The questions were thought provoking and interesting to say the least. It is my hopes that everyone will continue to participate by sending me their questions.

  • “What is the worst advice you received prior to prison?”

“Trust your gut.” That is nonsense. You should always trust your logic. Emotions cloud judgment and reason.

  • “How do you feel about Ohio State?”

I currently do not have a problem with OSU. I have a greater understanding of what took place now that I am removed from the University. I put youth, egos, ignorance, pride, the OSU brand, lack of resources and many other things into the equation when evaluating my past. All emotions in regards to OSU are removed these days. Once my story of how things came to be prior to prison is released then it will all make sense. Events will be put into the proper context.

  • “Do you think you’ll ever play football again?”

It is my hopes that I will be able to play in a reputable league again one day. I still have the passion to play. Prison has rejuvenated my athletic spirit. I guess it comes from playing sports every day.

  • “What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned since being locked up?”

That is simple; Mind 100% of your business 100% of the time. Also keep your eyes open and your mouth shut.

  • “How do you feel about Donte Stallworth?”

I haven’t been interested in sports seriously since 2003 but I am familiar with who Donte is. I wasn’t aware of the situation when I received the question but became educated on it as the week passed. I believe that the situation is unfortunate for both parties. I think there is a lot to be learned and I hope and wish the best for everyone involved. I know what it is like to lose a loved one in a car accident and I know the stress that comes with your life being in limbo and prison potentially being in your future. Both situations are very uncomfortable.

  1. Maurice, I don’t know if you have access to movies. When you are tired of reading and deep thinking I have several movies to suggest for “light philosophy”. In no particular order I would suggest -Second Hand Lion, Chariots of Fire, Love Actually, The Gods Must Be Crazy parts 1 & 2, The Life of Brian, Time Bandits.

  2. I forgot -One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest,

  3. Maybe the UFL would be an idea/stepping stone back to the game. The CFL might be an idea, too…

  4. Hello Mr. Clarett thanks for the return letter. I will be sending you another letter detailing how you might be able to assist On Focus, however my question is, do you believe student athletes need to learn more about the real world experiences they will face and more importantly should colleges develop specific programs and services dedicated to helping student athletes transition from college to the real world?

  5. Good work Mr. Clarett. Please continue to read and grow.Everything happens for a reason, and you will emerge from your current situation stronger than ever.Remember the words of M.L.K. “…keep your eyes on the prize…”
