You Title It
Let me start off by saying that I shy away from religious and spiritual conversations because I am educated enough to know that I am not educated enough to intelligently speak on either subject in depth. I currently don’t have the capacity. I only speak on my current level of understanding on any and every subject that I choose to write on. I don’t defend or take positions on anything I do not understand. If you read my posts closely, you’ll come to the realization that I have respect for all the religions that I’ve read upon. I just choose to embody the cultural freedom. The essence of the cultural freedom is to freely be peaceful. It is my personal belief that if the bottom-line in following religions are spiritual growths and to show and spread love, peace, respect, humility, etc. in them all then, how can I in good conscious disrespect, shame, or call someone else’s belief invalid when they’re trying to embody the same thing as me? Who am I to say that any religion or spiritual group is not the appropriate one to follow? God doesn’t punish anyone for being ignorant, misled, or misguided.
My lack of resources, be them both, proper literature and teachers (for lack of a better word) of certain schools of thought leaves me in a position where certain areas of my knowledge are not as developed as I may like them to be. Some may believe that I don’t believe in God, but I most certainly do. I just choose to “freely” believe in God at this point of my life. When my circumstances change we’ll see how things evolve.
There are people who are more conscious and educated than me. Sitting and pondering on that last sentence always leads me to ask myself how conscious and aware are the leaders of communities, politicians, teachers, pastors, priests, spiritual advisors, coaches, and anyone else who holds a position where they are in a position to influence and shape society. Has anyone ever asked that question to themselves? Look at me as an example and reflect on the opportunity I squandered away from not being as conscious as the world may have thought I was. I was in the position to influence thousands. Fame and popularity do not merit any special type of knowledge. After all, those listed above are celebrities in their own right. You can become rich and famous and have the ability to influence many minds just by being extremely talented at a specific set of skills that society likes to be entertained with, and yet be irresponsible throughout the entire process (i.e.: Maurice Clarett 2003-2006). I got a little off track with this paragraph but in some weird way it ties into the whole post. I am interested in hearing responses to this post.
Also I am going to start the Q & A segment back up. The way we’ll do it is that everyone will send their questions to me directly Monday-Friday via US Mail and I’ll post responses on Sunday. My address is as follows:
Maurice Clarett #529-720

I am looking forward to receiving questions throughout the upcoming week! J

First, let me start off by saying, I found your site by recently reading material on the big ten network, following a college basketball team (who shall remain nameless). I thought, let me take a quick peek, to read some of your scribes to ascertain your mindset.
Then I came across this comment, …”how conscious and aware are the leaders of communities, politicians, teachers, pastors, priests, spiritual advisors, coaches, and anyone else who holds a position where they are in a position to influence and shape society..” in the latter part of this particular post.
As an educator, and a former athlete, I am truly aware of the “power” and influence we possess to help or sometimes impede those who are looking to us. For the past 6 years I have been a middle school basketball coach and have tried to instill values in my ball players proparing them for more than just basketball. I have obviously used cases in the media surrounding high profile athletes, such as yourself, to demonstrate the need for them to be highly responsible for their actions. This demonstrates the status quo reponsibility and charge of what a person in my position or others mentioned in your quote should carry out.
There are some that have the charge and fail to do the best thing. For example, I had a high school coach who held all questionaires sent on behalf of me from interested colleges. The reason was that I failed to demonstrate the commitment to the baseball team because I went on my senior class trip. My point, people in such positions, some times drop the ball of responsibility. I dont’ know if I was pro material, but i certainly had looks after walking on to a college team.
I wish you luck in your future endeavors. I pray that you are given another opportunity, and you finish the dream you started. Moreover that kids can look to your story and learn from it.

Maurice,
I got your letters today and I am very interested in getting involved with your dream. I was wanting to know is there a weekend day that I can visit? I would like to sit down with you and discuss this further. Weekends are best for me to break away because of the coaching that I am in until late summer. If not, let me know what day is best for you to call me. I hope your doing well as are your daughter and family..take care of yourself and remember your happiness is just around the corner…Peace be with you….Toby

Hey Maurice,
I have always been amazed and I learned of my passion to become a sportswriter right around the time that I first saw you dominate against Washington St. as a 17 year old phenom.
While I am partially skeptical that this is truly you writing these blogs, I am excited to see that you are a much deeper thinker than originally anticipated. While I am still in school, and not yet hired as a sportswriter, I would love to talk to you if you ever get time, to get better insight into how you have evolved as a person and what you believe your future holds.
Take care of yourself, whether I ever hear from you again, or not. You will always be in my memories.

Maurice, I think you are more conscious and educated than you give yourself credit for being. We have all been conditioned to believe that consciousness and education can only come through prescribed channels and I don’t believe that is true.
I also believe that God is working diligently in your life, be it making your more conscious or granting you more wisdom. He has you on a path which will lead to the good plans He has for your life. He did not put you on this earth to live a life of comfort and celebrity or a life of hardship and anonymity, He put you on this earth to live a life that is meaningful.
Don’t let your growth be hampered by “religions”. God did not put us on this earth to be “religious”. He put us on this earth to seek Him with all our hearts, that we might live the life He intends for us. He doesn’t ask us to follow anyone other than His Son, Jesus Christ. He doesn’t command us to obey religious doctrine, He commands us to follow Jesus. To come to Him through our relationship with Jesus. Nothing else!!!
How can we know that Jesus Christ is His son, the living God? Because all the other great prophets, teachers, and leaders of religious movements are all still dead. Jesus Christ defeated death so that we might find life through Him. We don’t need a religion, we just need Him….nothing else.
Your heart is clearly seeking. Your self evaluation is way too honest and your search way too intentional to be anything other than God’s attempt to establish a relationship with you.
I pray that you will continue your writing, your questioning, your communicating, and that through that you will one day find true life and freedom in Jesus Christ.
If I can help you in your search, you have my email.
