Maurice Clarett’s Cool Stuff :-)
Who would have ever believed I would enjoy going back to school? Who would have ever thought that I’d return after all of my life’s events? It was through random readings while here, that I found a love for philosophy. That is one of the classes I am taking and I am enjoying the literature. It is very thought provoking. It is kind of cool to see how certain schools of thought originated. It is somewhat like getting a chance to understand the evolution of today’s thinking.
At The beginning of this prison sentence I would have been willing to bet my life that I would have never read anything from Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Descartes, Spinoza, or Hume. I learned a very valuable lesson. That is: not to be closed minded to everything. I guess you have to gain some type of understanding on certain subjects in order to see if it is or is not for you. In this case, I can see that philosophy is for me. It adds value to my life. Philosophy goes beyond the classroom.
I am almost certain that the way I feel about some of life’s most grave issues will evolve over the course of this work. I’m excited and I’ve only read four chapters. I guess what I’m trying to tell everyone is to leave oneself open to new ideas. Gain an educated understanding on any and everything before you reject it. A better understanding on some of the most trivial matters has birthed some of the most profound thoughts. Evolve with me.

George Bernard Shaw said “Life is not about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself.”
I hope that you continue to create “the self” you and your daughter need you to be.
Will it be easy? No. Will it be difficult? Absolutely! Will you create that new man? Only you have that answer.
We all make mistakes; some are much more difficult to overcome. You have time, talent, self discipline and motivation; overcoming a difficult situation simply requires tenacity.

Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think. MLK Good luck Maurice , We are proud of you, you have been through alot. Keep in a positive light!

This was one of the most impressive entries in this blog. The reading selections that you noted, especially Socrates and Plato, bring one in touch with some of the most profound wisdoms of our time. I wish you the best in the future. Leave the past behind and become a beacon for all. You’re future may be brighter than you ever suspected, but in a totally different direction than you ever could have imagined. Be well.

Stay strong Maurice! It’s been an up an down roller coaster since you first came into the buckeye faithfull eyes in the spring of 2001! We’ve had our share of love and disapointment with your on field and off field troubles!
I know many buckeye fans want Maurice Clarett to be a positive influence not to just us as fans, but to all the kids that may be leaning toward the dark road!
Can’t wait to see you out on the other side of those barb-wire fences and preach everything that you’ve been blogging about.
STAY STRONG #13!!!!!

Bravo Mr. Clarett. I recommend “Discipline and Punish” by Michel Foucault. Best of luck in your education.

Maurice,
“Philosophy goes beyond the classroom”.
Absolutely. Philosophy is the study of life, it embodies the search for something more, which seems to be what you’re doing right now. As a current OSU student I want to say I’d be proud to call you my classmate and that when I heard about your online diary, I had to come check it out. I’m a regular reader and I hope to hear more insightful thoughts from you in the near future. Keep fighting to inspire the youth of Ohio and America, and we’ll keep fighting back for you.

Mo – I am encouraged and enthralled to be reading your words – words that I at one time never thought you would be capable of writing as I witnessed your decline into the depths of hell from a mountain of promise – I watched with glee as you led our beloved Buckeyes into the promised land of our first national championship in many years – 68 since Woody – I was not good enough to play for Ohio State nor the NFL but I did start for 3 seasons at Furman UNiversity and my educatiton has been everything for me – I had nothing growing up expect a hard working mother and father who are now nearing life’s end but as you have discovered the hard way, it’s not where you come from but where you are headed – I pray for your continued recovery and also as a former teacher and football coach who has seen some of my students and players commit false steps and pay dearly for them, I hope that they will stand up as you are doing and deliver the message that needs to be heard far and wide – tomorrow is promised to no one and one had best take advantage of every opportunity given to them, not of those who may allow us such a privilege – hoping you come out of this stronger, better and more dedicated to living the life we all had hoped for you as we saw what you could do on the field – the field is only a temporary haven for us Mo – the field of life is a much different series of first downs and losses – hang in there! And keep writing!

Maurice-
I was one of — I’m sure MANY people who looked at you and said…”there goes another one.” What a waste. What a loser. F&*! him and his arrogant ways. I’m glad he’s in prison.”
I stumbled upon your site and just ready your posts.
In a word – Wow.
Sometimes you need a sobering event to put life into perspective and make you realize what’s really important.
Stay on the good path and good luck to you with the rest of your long and prosperous life.
