A New Beginning For Maurice Clarett
It is official. I am again enrolled in school. I am very excited to be back because I have business to finish. I am attempting to earn my Bachelor’s in Geriatrics and Gerontology. I am currently enrolled at Ohio University. Ohio University is the only university in the state to offer a program for the incarcerated. With that being said, I was interested in all that it could offer me.
First and foremost, I want to complete school for myself. At the same time, I want to set an example for my daughter. I plan on being a source of inspiration for anyone who has gotten off track and in need of the proper motivation to get back on, no matter what their circumstances may be. Understanding that this venture will possibly do more for others than it will for me, keeps me motivated. I have a will to succeed.

I am so excited for you! That is such an opportunity filled curriculum with the potential to be a lucrative career while helping a vast segment of the population age gracefully in every aspect of their lives. When you first shared with me this area of interest, I had hoped that you would seek out a way to make it happen. GOD is GOOD!!

Congratulations! An education is something that you will carry with you the rest of your life and no one can ever take it from you. GOOD LUCK
February 21, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Education is a true gift! Congratulations.
February 26, 2009 at 10:31 pm
I hope you will stick with it.
Grind it out during the hard times (because there will be hard times.) Smile during the good times (because there will be good times.)
You can do it.
I think it is great that Ohio University offers this program. More similar programs should be offered.

Keep you the good work. There are a lot of people that can use your advice and if you just reach 1 person and that person turns around and lives a productive life, you have done your job.
I know you’re a Bobcat on the outside, but you still bleed scarlet and Grey.

Dear Mr. Clarett,
I am very happy to read your blog and see the personal growth you have shown. If you can have such optimism in your current circumstance, there should be no reason for us all to have an optimistic view point. We have all made mistakes in our lives, yours are obviously more public than most. I can say that as an Ohio State die hard, I sincerely wish you the best. It really bothered me to see your struggles and it makes me feel better to see you making the most of it. My wife is a school teacher and in an urban school district. These kids could learn a lot from your story. Have you ever thought of talking to kids once your days are done there? I think you could have a positive impact on kids looking at education differently. There heroes are athletes, rappers, etc. They could do well seeing a high profile athlete go thru your trial and tribulations and yet finding redemption in education. I don’t want to pretend to know you or what you’ve been through, but I do see you in a position to make a positive impact on kids that may be heading down the same path you’ve just gone. I wish you the best and am glad to have the opportunity to share my thoughts with you.

I believe you will be a success in whatever you chose to do. When you get out are you going to try football again? Just curious. If so I hope to see you on TV on Sundays and possibly Monday nights. Never will forget you stripping the ball from the Miami player in the NC game. Good luck!

MoC. I am excited to hear of this new journey in your life. We used to work out together at WAC, and although our conversations were always brief, they were enjoyable.
I used to know some of the professors that teach the classes you are enrolling in, and they are good professors that take their profession very seriously. You will get a great education.
I wish you the best!

This is wonderful news. I myself have taken a similar “non traditional” path when it comes to education. Keep at it and may your success be an example to yourself and to others. May you and your family be blessed.
March 3, 2009 at 9:29 pm
I am reading this book called Freedom Writers. Maybe you have seen the movie? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could get out there and help kids by inspiring them to write?
Good luck with all…

What is impressive is that you have taken ownership of your life. You have become accountable for you, to you.
We all make choices that alter our steps, and alter our paths. The important thing is to learn which choices will have positive impact on our paths and which ones will not.
I commend you for taking responsibility for your actions, and holding yourself accountable. Is is not an easy thing to do.

I am very proud of you Maurice ….. I will continue to read your blog daily as you are a source of inspiration. I wish you the very best of luck, you are on the right track. Congratulations Maurice!

I really think that in the long run your path will provide you as well as others that enduring human quality of hope and faith. People of strength find love and hope in everything. That includes adversity; sometimes it takes a minute or two, but they find something good if they don’t give up. BEST WISHES
